About Baseball
The game of English Baseball has been played in England (Liverpool) and Wales (Cardiff & Newport) for over 100 years. The game unlike the American game is played with 11 people in the team, the bowler uses an under arm motion rather than pitching.
The showcase event of the year is the men’s international between Wales and England, which was first held in 1908. A unified set of rules was formalised in 1927 with the formation of the International Baseball Board, which remains the sport’s governing body, with representatives from the WBU and the Liverpool-based English Baseball Association.
The international has been held in such prestigious venues as Cardiff Arms Park, the home of Welsh rugby and Goodison Park, home of the mighty Everton soccer club.
We also host an annual Junior International where teams of U12's, U14's and U16's play. We have taken our youth teams to Cardiff and hopefully will be able to do this in the future if we can get the interest from the local children. The Welsh have no problem finding teams as the game is still played in their local schools.
Sadly the game in Liverpool is in a very poor state and we have very few senior teams remaining. The junior game is where our game needs to grow and we still need to get a bit more interest as we try to generate interest with the youth in the Liverpool area.
Through the help of schools, youth clubs, junior football teams or any other individuals willing to play the game we hope the game can survive for another 100 years.
If you or if you know of anybody interested in joining our league please use the contact form tab to get in touch and we'll be more than happy to help you, We'll even help coach your team where possible. We have a small amount of kit that we could loan to anybody interested.
Games in Liverpool are held on Tuesday evenings (6.45 pm) and Saturdays
(3.00 pm) from approximately the first Tuesday in May until early
August.
